Instructions for Entering Housing Information for New Freshman and Transfer Students
Welcome to Shippensburg University Housing!
Students who have confirmed with Shippensburg University can go online and complete housing preferences. Students will be able to give personal preferences, building preferences, and roommate choice. The Housing Office will try to honor these preferences based on a student's confirmation date.
Log on to Student Information System, Admissions, Application Status, enter the secure information, and select Housing. Students will find the latest housing news and a button labeled "Go to Housing". Select this button to access our new online housing system. In this area students will find MyHousing Overview, Personal Preferences, Room Preferences, Roommate Requests, and Room Requests.
My Housing Overview gives a summary of current information. Students will see general information, current room assignment (by August 1st), roommates, future roommate information, and the housing lottery information.
On the left hand side of the screen students will find these navigation buttons:
Personal Preferences - This area is used to collect personal roommate information. Students may change this area at any time even if they are not currently in a room lottery. This information will be considered when the housing office makes any room assignments. Students can make any entries and changes by June 1st. After June 1st the housing office will begin to make assignments based on the current information that is available as assignments are made. It is not semester specific.
Room Preferences - Students use this area to enter building choices. This area may be changed at any time even if the student is not currently in a room lottery. Students should make any entries and changes by June 1st. After June 1st the housing office will begin to make assignments based on the current information that is available as assignments are made. This information is semester specific. Make sure you are entering information for semester you are starting at SU.
Students can choose two building preferences. Remember these are preferences and based on demand they may not be honored. Detailed hall information is available at housing facilities. Please note the following:
Harley Hall
New in 2008-2009!
Harley Hall will be co-ed. 1st and 2nd floors will be female and 3rd floor will be male.
McLean Hall Healthy Living
A student can also designate if they would like to be in Healthy Living in McLean Hall. Healthy Living is a wing on the 5th floor of McLean Hall (Rooms 533-563). It is a co-educational floor where residents share the desire for a community that makes responsible, respectful decisions that relate to the use of alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs. If you enter yes to Healthy Living please make sure one of your building choices is McLean Hall.
McCune (Scholars) Hall
Students requesting McCune Hall must have an SAT score of at least 1050 or a GPA greater than 2.70.
Seavers Apartments
If a group of three or more students is interested in living in Seavers Complex they may send an e-mail to housing@ship.edu expressing interest and indicating Seavers Complex as a building preference.
Stone Ridge Commons
Preference is given to upperclassmen students by application. Random vacancies do occur. If you are a new transfer student and interested in filling one of those vacancies you can send an e-mail to housing@ship.edu expressing your interest. Residents must pay an additional utility fee and higher room rate for one and four bedroom apartments.
Smoke Free - All residence halls are smoke free.
Special Needs - Students with special needs may request accomodations by contacting our Office of Disability Services.
Student Lotteries - The "lottery" is an event the Housing Office schedules to allow a student to choose a room and/or roommate online. If a student is in an active lottery the student may choose a roommate. The housing office will assign the room.
Roommate Requests - Students use this area to enter roommate requests. After the student has entered a roommate request the system will try to uniquely identify that person and tell the student if the matching roommate has also selected him/her. If the 1st roommate sees the 2nd roommate's name and a message "Does not Match" it means the 2nd roommate has not entered a preference for the 1st roommate. When the 2nd roommate picks the 1st roommate both students will see "(Match) Yes ". First and last name are the only required fields. Students who have trouble locating a roommate can e-mail housing@ship.edu.
Separate Lotteries
New freshman and transfer students will be in one lottery. Returning students will be in other lotteries. The new student lottery starts and ends at the same time for all students. The lottery allows students to enter roommate preferences. Students can go through the lottery at any time during the lottery. The lottery will end on June 1st.
New Students wishing to live with Returning Students
The students should become matching roommates. The returning student will select the room for both students through the returning student room selection process.
Room Selection - New students will not make a room selection. All rooms will be assigned by the Housing Office. Students will be able to view the assignments on the MyHousing Overview screen by August 1st.
